  Description

The SAM3S Clock Failure Detection hands-on allows to get familiar with the PMC clock failure detector. The clock failure detector allows to monitor the 3 to 20 MHz Crystal or Ceramic Resonator based oscillator and to detect an eventual defect of this oscillator.

To do a clock failure on the SAM3S-EK, the user should short XIN or XOUT (97 and 96 of 100-Lead LQFP Pinout) to ground to force a clock failure. If the failure is detected, a specific variable is set and the clock failure bitmap is displayed on the LCD screen.
