Hi all,

I am trying to have a Linux Kernel running on a sam3s board. My first idea is to follow the steps describe in the documentation to run Linux on a sam9 board
http://www.at91.com/linux4sam/bin/view/ ... ingStarted

Of course my first questions would be, is that a good idea ? and is it a good way to do so ?

If so I will probably have to adapt at91bootstrap to the sam3s board. Is that work already done and is it available ?

Thanks a lot for any of your answers

Why the SAM3S?

Doesn't the lack of an MMU, and a rather limited EBI, seriously limit your ability to get this done?

Hi

Thanks for your answer.

My motivations are very basic: I am paid to run Linux on a CortexM3 and does not really have any other choice .
The idea is to see if it is possible and to try to make it run. So I am trying to do so.

uClinux or full blown Linux?

What kind of memory foot-print are you considering for your hardware design?

Has someone in your management chain explained the motivation to use the Cortex-M3, a platform without MMU, cache, speed, large memory? Presumably someone has put some thought into this endeavor.

A modern linux kernel is about 4 MB uncompressed.
You will need more for applications so 8-16 MB memory is really minimum.
I think there may be SAM3 development boards around soon with SDRAM memory.
Talk to your local Atmel contact and try to get hold of one.
