Hi,

I would like to use the 16k internal SRAM on the AT91SAM9261 for Peripheral DMA buffers (managed by my application), preferably from userspace. Of course I can mmap() the appropriate address via /dev/mem, but I don't know if anything else uses the memory. How can I determine if and how the SRAM is used by the kernel and how can I reserve it for my application?

I am quite new to embedded development on Linux and therefore don't know my way around the kernel yet.

Cheers
Sebastian

Sebastian,

Seems to me that there should be a clue in the /proc directory. I don't have GNU/Linux running on an Atmel processor or I would report back what I see. However, on other processor implimentations (Debain based) the /proc directory tied to the kernal's use and assuming that all modules that use the sram are accounted for. If memory serves me correctly, you can compile the kernel with and without /proc support so you your mileage may vary.

Not sure that helps, but just a thought I had when reading your post.

Dave
