Hello,
I have made a working IrDA connection using COM1 port (/dev/ttyS1) and my own modulator with IrDA device, but since mcu supports USART IrDA mode using its own modulator, I have to use this one.

My idea is to connect IrDA TX and RX directly to PIO (J24) ports PA26(TXD0) and PA27(RXD0)

I have some questions:
1. How can I change USART mode to IrDA ? The datasheet says that I have to change USART_MODE (US_MR) to 0x8, but where can I do this? Maybe someone could tell me if I have to recompile kernel and which file I have to edit?

2. Usually input/output port should have its own device in /dev, so I will have to send info to USART in IrDA mode, but there are no additional USART devices in /dev, so I will have to make it with mknod or it will appear after setting USART to IrDA mode ?

Angstrom Linux 2.6.22, AT91SAM9263-EK.
