How should I format the data flash to make it available for downloading Atmel loader? I format the MMC card in Windows with FAT, but the board could not recognize that a dataflash had already been inserted in the bottom slot.

Thanks for help!

Hello,

In order to prepare the SPI Dataflash for booting Windows CE, please refers to paragraph 3.2.3 of the install notes document (AT91-CE-50-2C-Install Note on EK.doc).
All the steps to write the bootloaders on the Dataflash are explained in it.

Kind regards,

Hi, I have the document AT91-CE-50-2A. I followed the instructions up to 3.2.3.2. However, it has a message "Read Code Size failed" after I sent dataflashboot.bin through Xmodem. I continued to input "1 C0000000", it returned a message "No dataflash available Hit a Key!"

The dataflash card is a new MMC card. I had format the card in XP with FAT file system. Will this be a problem?

I tried to read the dataflash cards that comes with the board in XP, but Windows cannot read the cards. I am wondering if the cards need to have special format to be recognized by the board.

Anyone can help? I am new to ARM platform and WINCE. Thanks!

Hi,
You said in your last post "the dataflash card is new MMC card".
Be careful, a dataflash card is a special card format. It's a serial SPI dataflash. The card have the same shape but the technologies are different. So you can't use an MMC instead of a dataflash.

You cannot boot the RM9200EK directly from SDCard, you need to set the bootloader in the Dataflash (in the slot under the board) and then you set your CE image in the SDCard (in the top slot, on the board processor side).

Regards,

My target is to set my CE image in the SDcard so I followed AT91-CE-50-2A procedures. Now I stopped at 3.2.3.2 because MMC card is not the same as dataflash.

My problem now is that I don't have other dataflash so I cannot continue from 3.2.3.2. I tried to use dataflash cards that come with the board, but those dataflash boot up from their default image once power is turned on.

Could you please advice how i can continue to download my CE image to SD card from 3.2.3.2?

Thanks a lot!
