Hello, I'm doing a job; I recently received a board (I don't know if it's commercial or custom) with an AT91SAM7X128 located on it. I've been able to connect it to a PC with an USB connection.

However after I connect I get message USB Device Not Recognized. I've searched on internet for solutions; I read that either by downloading and installing AT91 In-system Programmer or AVR Studio 4 the driver should be downloaded too. I eventually ended up installing both programs. I've tried uninstalling and installing USB driver multiple times from the device manager, but I have no success.. My system is simply unable to find the USB driver for AT91SAM7X..

I'm using Windows XP.

On the schematics I've received with the board I can see the DDM (pin 93) of the AT91SAM7X is connected to the D- of the USB and the DDP (pin 94) is connected to the D+ of USB.

Can anyone help me with this? I could really use some help, it's much appreciated.
Thank you

Hi

The PC will only be able to recognise the USB device when either:
1) It has a program on it which is running and driving the USB interface
2) It has the NV bit deleted which starts the loaded program (thsi is easiest deleted by connecting the ERASE pin to 3V3 when resetting the device. Then start it again and it should connect (assuming not HW problem).

Regards

Hi Mark.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes I realize now that I probably need to put a bootloader (or other app with USB driver) on the processor first.

When given the board, I was not given the JTAG programmer for it. So I figured the board would already be running programs. That didn't seem to be the case.. so now I have to get a JTAG programmer for it. Hopefully it will be delivered tomorrow.

I will notify you when the problem is fixed.

Hello,

I've come to inform you I was taken off the job.
After receiving the AT91SAM-ICE JTAG programmer, I noticed the board had an 18 pin port, while the JTAG connector has 20 pins.. I looked through the hardware schematics and data sheets of the board and the JTAG programmer and was surprised to see only two pins of the port located on the board was connected to the AT91SAM7X128. The other pins were connected to an encryption chip also located on the board.
I had no clue on how to program the AT91SAM now, to me the only solution was to take the JTAG connector apart and solder the correct wires directly to the pins of the AT91SAM...

So now the board has been taken back and I can return to work on my main project.

Regards,

PJvG
