Hi
I have soldered an AT91SAM7A3-AU on a TQFP adapter in order to be able to use it with a breadboard. I have a ULINK clone cable and I did the following:
1. Connected all the VDD3V3 and GND of the uC to the PSU
2. Connected all the JTAG pins of the ULINK to the uC with the appropriate pull-ups plus the nRST with SRST (pin 15 with a pull-up resistor) of the ULINK, and JTAGSEL to 3.3V
3. Connected the XTAL with the appropriate caps

I actually configured it according to the Evaluation Board schematic that Atmel has on the datasheet of the product.

When I try to flash the program (I use KEIL) it gives an error that cannot communicate with JTAG so I guess I am missing something with the minimum configuration. Any hints? Could the uC be dead from soldering? Did I miss to connect something important? I am new to AT91s.
Thank you

Hello,

You might want to take a look at Atmel's application note
"AT91SAM7X and AT91SAM7XC Microcontroller Series Schematic Check List"

FYI: There isn't a check list for the SAM7A3 but the SAM7X should work.
BTW: Rumor is that the SAM7A3 is not recommended for new designs.

You can find it here http://www.atmel.com/dyn/resources/prod_documents/doc6260.pdf

This can be reached from the following url under "Design Considerations"
http://www.atmel.com/dyn/products/app_notes_v2.asp?family_id=605

After verifying your connections check the osc with a scope.

Thank you very much! :D
Stupid me that I've not seen these documents before! I'll check them and probably understand what I did miss to connect. Thank you again!
