How do I reserve a USB PID for the SAM7 chips?
I will use the 0x03EB for the VID.
But can I reserve a PID for our products? Who should I contact?

hello,
if you develop and sell a product which includes an usb device port, your product have to have a unique vid and pid elsewise you will get trouble if 2 devices with the same vid&pid are connected to one pc.
so the "normal" way is to get an vid from usb-if (http://www.usb.org/developers/usbfaq#12) and afterwards you can define your own pid's. but be aware that you have pay for the vid.
in the past there were some companies around who sold pid's but the get in trouble with usb-if and afaik no more pid's are sold.

regards
gerhard

Hi

The VID 0x03eb belongs to ATMEL.

ATMEL does allow users of their products to register a PID under that VID - usually restricted to a certain maximum quantity of devices (typically maximum 10'000).

You will however need to contact your ATMEL representative to get the registration details - I don't think that this forum will be able to give you enough information.

If it is a hobby project and not commercial it is simplest to just chose one and use it - as long as the device doesn't leave your hobby room it can not cause any problems.

Regards

Mark
