Might help if you provide the correct part number, or a link to a data sheet.

Doesn't Keil contain a number of board examples of character LCD's used on it's own dev boards?

This supports character, GLCD and TFT on ATMEL SAM and AVR32s.
See the following video to see examples (of TFT and simulating): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdtRyQ-2IrE (this is not for the SAM but the same can be done with it - search for "uTasker" on youtube for various other related videos.

At http://demo.uTasker.com you can usually contact an on-line device with LCD - in the web browser you can see the present image and also load new images to it. [At the moment an ATMEL AVR32 is running - but this changes around].
