Hello,
I'm trying to connect to my target (at91sam7a3 based) using USB and SAM-BA 2.10 without any success.
I've tried in both Linux and Windows, but it fails/freezes after printing "target(handle) : file5 (Linux)
or after selecting com-port and target (Windows) (no other window than the select port/target shows)

Linux shell printout:
-I- Waiting ...
-I- TCL platform : Linux
-I- SAM-BA CDC 2.10 on : linux
-I- Connection : /dev/ttyUSB5 (target(comType) = 3)
-I- Board : at91sam7a3-ek
-I- Traces Level : 4
-I- target(handle) : file5

I know of the linux patch-problem (running Ubuntu 10.4) but AFAIK even if I needed the patch, it would have printed out more than halting on target(handle)?

Could my device be disabled somehow, ie not possible to connect to sam-ba?

(The ttyUSB5 is a link to /dev/ttyACM0 and the linux part shows ok.)

Is there any way to connect to the tty directly to get more info?

(Sorry for the newbie questions, but I'm lost here..)

Thanks in advance!

Well SAM-BA 2.7, 2.8 or 2.9 might be worth a try, or perhaps something more contemporaneous with the release of the board. The 2.10 CDC release doesn't work well with prior versions.

There is also DBGU serial port connectivity for SAM-BA, and the JTAG (J-Link/SAM-ICE) connection. With the JTAG it helps to have the most current Segger drivers, and current firmware.

Try also try providing external power, rather than through the USB.

SAM-BA attachment to Atmel boards can be frustrating at times. It's always helpful to have several computers with different software/drivers and connectivity methods. Having it hang endlessly, or report it can't find the CPU/Board, is pretty much how it goes sometimes. Just be persistent.

CptTitanic, thanks for the reply!

First of all, I would like to know if there is any possibility that my device is crippled in anyway, disabled somehow? Is there any way to find out? It reports "normal" in linux:
Bus 002 Device 028: ID 03eb:6124 Atmel Corp. at91sam SAMBA bootloader

Unfortunately I have no possibility to connect to other than USB. It runs on external power already..
Tried to connect to the port with a terminal program and it prints out some binary data it seems.. but then is quiet..
Hexdump:
0000000 0443 0700 0001 0d41 0b43 0000 2081 1181
0000010 0000 0000 7900 000d

Also, it has a LED that flashes some, at startup: on-three-quick-off 4 times, then a short off again, then starts to flash on/off at about 1Hz.

If this seems ok, I'll gladly continue my quest trying to talk to it :-)

Is the TST jumper (J24) closed?
