Hi there!
I'm new to the AT91, having done most of my work before on m68ks and 8-bit micros, and I have some questions about the Boot ROM business on the AT91SAM7x256:

It seems that if the Boot ROM is enabled, and you format your program data correctly, it ought to be possible to simply make a serial connection to the DBGU and program the Flash without using the JTAG or USB, or more importantly the SAM-BA front end.
Is this correct?
I haven't found evidence of anybody having written a command line program to do this, like picp for the PIC or AVRdude for the AVR. Has anyone?
Also, the section on the functionality of the boot ROM is pretty light in the datasheets. Is there a more in-depth account somewhere of interfacing with the boot ROM? I've seen the source code floating around for the SAM-BA boot out there somewhere.

Hope these questions aren't too silly,
and thanks!
