 Post subject: How can I use usart pins as GPIO?

I have one EVB board with sam9g20.
I need more GPIOs on this board so I want to using the usart pins as gpio.
When I want to use these pins as gpio, the kernel not allowed me and I can't access to them.
Now I want to change the kernel and make it again to disable these USART pins for using these pins as gpio.
How can I change the configuration of kernel for this purpose?

What kernel? Linux?
