I noticed in a very early post by Scadene, that "in all cases, after power-up the NTRST signal must be asserted"... can anyone explain how to best assure this happens, and maybe what happens if this is not done? I didn't not see any mention of this in the errata, nor is it obvious from the schematics how how the development kit ensures this also. Can anyone share their experience? Thanks for your help,

Conger

Hi Conger,

There is no mention in Errata because there is no Erratum. The answer is in the full datasheet of the AT91RM9200.
In the AT91x40 ATMEL microcontroller family, NRST and NTRST are connected together by design.
Having self-reset signal on TAP Controller allows to reset the micro without act on the TAP Controller: good thing in debug step.
But if do not need this setting, it is possible to connect NTRST and NRST to the same Reset Controller.
Do not assert NTRST can be compared as logical state machine without reset after power-up: without NTRST, the state machine can be in indefinite state and the application could not work.
Read the datasheet in order to have more information.
