NEON enabled on sama5d3 kernel defconfig

Mon Apr 01, 2019 10:46 am

Hi
I read on datasheet sama5d3 this: "The Floating-Point Unit (FPU) supports the ARMv7 VFPv4-D16 architecture without Advanced SIMD extensions (NEON)"
but I found on various kernel defconfig neon enabled (CONFIG_NEON=y
CONFIG_KERNEL_MODE_NEON=y),
is this a mistake?

Exactly which file are you using and concerned about?

Not likely.
A defconfig file may encompass several SoCs and boards, so the set of capabilities and features enabled is a union rather than an intersection.
For NEON there are run-time functions such as cpu_has_neon() to avoid issues.

Are you actually encountering NEON-related issues?
