SAM-BA 2.8 initializing dataflash fails

Fri Feb 13, 2009 9:46 pm

Hi,
Using a AT91SAM9G20-EK, I have to click two (or more) times on "Enable Dataflash (SPIO CS1) " "execute" before getting "Applet initialization done". Most often I get "script error: error initializing dataflash applet (Can't detect known device)". (And the boot setting process is not working, even when initialization is good).
Working with SDRAM is OK. I can send , receive and compare OK. What I can't do with this DataFlash.
Any idea ?

Check this FAQ note. Seems to match your issue.

I am having the same problem with the AT91SAM9XE-512, but the "FIX" did not work for the *-512.tcl script. Any one solve this for the -512 yet?

Your problem has no link with the SAM9G20 problem as he bootROM is completely different.
What do you mean by "having the same problem"? Ar you talking about dataflash on CS1 or CS0? Do you mean that you need to perform the init twice or more?

What I mean by having the same problem is the error I am getting:

(AT91-ISP v1.12) 35 % DATAFLASH::Init 1
-I- DATAFLASH::Init 1 (trace level : 3)
-I- Loading applet isp-dataflash-at91sam9xe512.bin at address 0x20000000
-E- Script error: Error Initializing DataFlash Applet (Can't detect known device).

This happens on an AT91SAM9XE-512, but not with my AT91SAM9XE-EK.

If I understand well the problem only occurs on your own board right (AT91SAM9XE512 is a device name, not a board that's why it is confusing).
If yes you have to check your schematics with the EK board schematics or adapt SAMBA to your needs.

Good suggestion. The schematics showed there was no Data Flash on our test board. Changing the SAM-BA script to write to Nand Flash addresses this error.

Thanks.
